Abstract |
The present paper under the title “Creative aspects of translation” has been developed by
Tatiana Tishininova, a 4th year student of Riga Technical University, the Institute of Applied
Linguistics. The Paper addresses creative aspects of translation in light of the translator’s
word choice and his/her ability to recognize different types of meanings, specifically,
connotative meanings of different lexical items.
The theoretical part of the paper sheds light on creativity in translation and examines
different aspects of this phenomenon, including the analysis of connotative meanings from
this perspective. In the Practical part of the paper the author provides the translation of
lexical units derived from the book ‘An Ugly Truth: Inside Facebook's Battle for
Domination’ by Sheera Frenkel and analyzes them in the context of creativity in translation.
The book is written on the verge of two disciplines: economics and IT, and is characterized
by stylistic hybridity that possesses a challenge for the translator.
In the paper, the author demonstrates the importance of a word in translation; thereby, the
translator’s ability to recognize connotative and denotative meanings is represented as an
essential precondition for creativity.
The Bachelor Paper consists of Introduction, Theoretical part, Practical part comprising 60
pages of translation, Glossary of terms (including context dependent items), Conclusion, and
Bibliography.
The total volume of the Bachelor Paper is 161 pages, the number of items in the Bibliography
