Abstract |
The Bachelor Paper is written by 4th year student Kitija Šipillo on the theme Lexical
and Grammatical Equivalence between Source and Target Text. The author of the Bachelor
Paper has made the translation of the technical text in the field of civil engineering and
explored the ways to achieve the lexical and grammatical equivalence that has been analyzed
in the Theoretical Part of Bachelor Paper.
The Bachelor consists of two parts. The first part is the Theoretical Part and the second
part is the Practical Part.
In the Theoretical Part the author has examined lexical and grammatical equivalence
and the approaches to achieve it as well as the methods of the non-equivalence as the
equivalence is one of the most important fields in the whole theory of translation, meanwhile,
the Practical Part consist of translation from the field of civil engineering, from English
language to Latvian.
The Source Text has been taken from the book The Messina Strait Bridge. Challenge
and the dream written by Fabio Brancaleoni, Giorgio Diana and Ezio Faccioli.
In total, the Bachelor Paper consists of 110 pages, except for appendices. The
translation consists of 60 pages. The volume of the Theoretical Part is 31 pages.
The following number of literature on theory in translation has been used: 19 books
and periodicals, 4 dictionaries, 10 internet resources, 2 articles on Web. The following types
of appendices are included into Bachelor Paper: Source Text, Glossary of Terms, and Glossary
