| Anotācija |
The author of this Bachelor Paper is Veronika Astahova, the fourth-year student. The title of this paper is Strategies of Technical Text Translation: Sense-for-Sense or Word-for-Word Translation. The text is taken from the book False Economy by Alan Beattie and the translated parts are Chapter 5: Religion and Chapter 6: Politics of Development. The author of the text explains how religion affects the economy in different countries and why different countries depend on the export of various products instead of producing their own goods. Also the author of the text makes conclusions concerning all the topics covered in the book.
The problem under consideration of this paper may be described in the following way: which of the two strategies word-for-word or sense-for-sense is the most appropriate in translation of technical texts? Must the translator choose only one translation strategy or he/she has an option to use both strategies in the process of translation of one particular text? Which aspects can help a translator to choose the appropriate translation strategy in situations when auxiliary material cannot help? Many possibilities exist to achieve a good translation; however, a translator should know how to use these possibilities to solve certain translation problems. If there is a problem, there should be a solution.
The paper consists of 100 pages which are introduction, theoretical part, practical part, conclusion, and bibliography. Also the paper includes four appendices: Glossary of Specific Terms, Glossary of the General Language Words with Contextual Meaning, List of False Friends of a Translator, and the Source Text. |
