Anotācija |
The Bachelor Paper “Translation of Terminology in the Field of Telecommunications” has been developed by the student of Riga Technical University, Institute of Languages, Professional Bachelor Study Programme “Technical translation”, Sabīna Budko.
The Bachelor Paper consists of the abstract, introduction, theoretical part, practical part, conclusion, bibliography and three appendices, comprising three glossaries, the source text in the English language and the survey.
The practical part of this Paper is the translation of an extract taken from the book – Security for Web Services and Service-Oriented Architectures. The authors of this book are: E.Bertino, L.Martino, F.Paci, A.Squicciarini.
The theoretical part of the Paper consists of three main chapters. The first chapter provides the research of terminology development as a scientific discipline and considers the difficulties in defining the notion of a term and its main characteristics. The second chapter studies the relevant term formation patterns, analyses the role of a context in the clear interpretation of a term. The third chapter describes main challenges the translator has to face when working with text in the field of telecommunications such as the lack of the source language concept in the target language, existence of synonymy strings in the target language, etc.
The present Bachelor Paper is of practical and theoretical significance for students and translators who are working with terminology, especially in the field of telecommunications.
The Bachelor Paper contains 99 pages. The Bibliography comprises 25 theoretical sources, 8 dictionaries and 4 Internet resources. Appendix 1 includes: Glossary of Terms, Glossary of the Context-Dependent Lexical Items and Glossary of Abbreviations. Appendix 2 contains the source text in English. Appendix 3 includes the Questionnaire. |
