| Abstract |
The author of the present Master Paper is Karina Astrjakova, the second-year student of Professional Master Study Programme Technical Translation. The title of this Master Paper is Information Structure: Interpretation of New Notions. The text translated in the practical part of the Paper is taken from the book Cloud Computing Strategies by Jonathan L. Zittrain. The main topic of this book is cloud computing and the author discusses the opportunities and obstacles of implementation of cloud services.
Within the framework of the present Master Paper the author aims at discussing the following issues:
how information structure influences the perception of information given in the text;
how context can help the translator to understand complex terms and concepts;
how internationalization of terminology affects the work of the translator;
how to deal with the increasing number of new terms and notions, which do not have equivalents in the TL.
In the analytical part of the Master Paper the author addresses the challenges related to the choice of lexical items in the translation process, such as borrowings, internationalisms, collocations, sayings and strives to produce a reader-friendly translation in terms of pragmatic and informational relevance.
The Paper consists of 127 pages, it comprises an introduction, theoretical part, analytical part, practical part, conclusion and bibliography (32 printed sources, 5 online dictionaries). The Paper also includes appendices comprising 3 glossaries (glossary of terms, glossary of the general language words with contextual meanings, glossary of abbreviations) and the source text. |
