Abstract |
Nowadays, delay are one of foremost problems in construction industry, as causes has detrimental effect on the cost and time as well as reputation of construction. They can minimized delay to identified causes. Therefore, it is necessary to study and analyses causes of construction delay. The aim of this paper is to assess the causes leading to construction delay and cost overrun on construction project. Many construction companies are not properly aware in India that what causes are most affect in construction delays and the effect of cost overrun risks. The master thesis is organize into the following parts: Introduction, Analytical part, Theoretical part, Practical part and Conclusion & Recommendations.
In introduction part some general and basic knowledge about construction industry, construction delay and cost overrun are mentioned, structure of Thesis, aim and hypothesis are describen.
The analytical part is focused on causes of construction delay in India, in Europe and delays in the world. Also in this part, the concept of success factor for construction project, construction life cycle, types of construction delay, Rail Baltics are mentioned.
The theoretical part starts with information about construction industry in India and in Latvia, including GDP Ratio. Also this part contain effects on construction delay, how the Covid-19 affected construction sector and which factors affect construction delay and cost overrun in construction through the analysis of pervious literature review.
In practical part, the concept of construction delay through questionnaire is analyzed. The questionnaire was designed by pervious literature review and distributed questionnaire to each of owner, contractor, consultant, engineer & supervisor, government office and client in these three main cities of India- Mumbai, Delhi and Surat. Last section is data analysis though questionnaire, interview by using RII method.
Final stage in this thesis are conclusions and recommendations, which are helpful at construction site to deal with delay and prevent from cost overrun.
This thesis contains total 98 pages, with 15 separate causes of literature review, 33 reference is added for reference. Forty-three causes of delay were identified during the research. |
