Abstract The master thesis provides a sustainability assessment algorithm to identify and assess unanticipated deterministic and stochastic factors influencing the development of digital technologies. The thesis contains structured information regarding identifying digital technology and attributes, identifying and assessing unanticipated impacts, identifying sustainability assessment methods, and algorithm for unanticipated impact assessment of digital technology sustainability as well as showing a usable way to use the algorithm using digital technology, virtual and augmented reality, for educational purpose. The thesis describes integrating the process of sustainability assessment methods with unanticipated impacts and risk assessment methods. Based on the online survey conducted by the author of the thesis, analysis of the proposed algorithm and its validation in technology experts is performed. Considering the results of the research and survey data, the master thesis offers an example for using the algorithm for the sustainability of virtual and/or augmented reality technology into knowledge management and educational purposes for sustainability researchers and investors in technology.
