Abstract |
This study evaluates the technical efficiency of the Colombo port in Sri Lanka by applying DEA-CRS and DEA-VRS models with ten container ports. Three container ports including Colombo port obtain efficient level as one under the DEA-CRS model and six container ports obtained pure efficiency as one under the DEA-VRS model. However, DEA application for the port terminal SLPA, SAGT, CICT reflects, except SLPA, other two terminals are efficient, indicate privet public partnership plays key role in the competition and efficiency of the ports. Also, operational efficiency of the Colombo port reflects positive influence for the overall port operations over the period. Under the evaluation of competition in SEA region, Colombo port obtained extensive competitive position by reflecting the highest average growth rate of market share. As an indicator of the country economic growth, Colombo port forecasted throughput indicates necessity of continuous development and expansions for the port, to be in the existing competitive position or move forward. |
