Abstract Air pollution is very important nowadays problem that needs to be prevented. Different technologies are being applied as a solution for specific air contamination situation. Awareness of volatile organic compound (VOC’s) pollution as a problem gave the idea to take well-known technology device – biofilter, combine it with natural organic materials as a device filter load and research if it is an effective material to clean air from VOC’s. The task of this master thesis was to evaluate green peat moss (lat. sphagnum) and green peat moss mixture with peat moss ability to clean volatile organic compounds: acetone, toluene, and xylene from the air. The biofilter stand with 5 sections for filter material was created in Vilnius Gediminas Technical university for the research. All measurements took 40 days for every contaminant and once again to two different types of loads. After research was done, we accomplished results of maximum efficiency of 95,77 % in range ± 5% in the filter load where green sphagnum load was mixed with peat moss. The results tell us that biofiltration process with organic load could be the effective preventative solution to purify the air from VOC’s contamination. The structure of the work consists of 7 main parts: introduction, assessment of environmental air quality and treatment technologies, research methodology of biofilter air cleaning effectiveness, droplet biofilter efficiency research analysis, modeling of biofiltration processes, conclusions and suggestions, and references. The master thesis takes in 67 p. text without appendixes, 38 pictures, 5 tables, 54 bibliographical entries.
