| Abstract |
As the Nepalese construction industry is now promising to become the engine of national economic development, achieving quality and higher performance, not only domestically but also in the international market, are becoming crucial issues. Implementing quality management systems (QMSs) based on ISO 9001 are important in helping Nepalese construction companies become more competitive, for it is acknowledged that quality in construction is a major concern in the global construction industry.
In this master thesis, the quality management problems and measures of improvement are studied and presented. The master thesis consists of three parts; the analytical part, theoretical part and the practical part.
The first part of this thesis is the analytical part which consists of study of construction process in detail. The construction market of Nepal, the improvement of Nepalese construction market along with good and less good sides of Nepalese construction market is studied and presented. This part also includes aim and objectives and structure of this thesis.
The theoretical part provides a detailed overview of the quality management meaning. This part includes description of overall terms related to quality and quality management as well construction process. Quality control, quality assurance, quality audit, total quality management system and quality engineering terms, definitions along with detail meanings and application in construction industry is provided in this part.
The third or the practical part is based on the data analysis. Data collected from interview and questionnaire is presented and analyzed in this part. Different aspect of quality has been studied in data collection phase regarding participant’s perception towards quality, the market tools to improve the quality implementation, the impact of quality management in construction industry and the barriers for implementation. This data is then concluded and recommendations are provided in accordance with market trend. |
